Is a Yeast Infection Contagious?

Many people have heard about yeast infection contagious claims and it has been debated over and over whether yeast overgrowth is contagious. The fact that yeast is found naturally in the body makes it not contagious however, many men have gotten infections from their partners during sex. Yeast will definitely affect men when they are constantly having sex with partners with infections though experts say that these cases are very few. Both partners should be treated to avoid passing the infection back and forth to each other. It is therefore very helpful to know some of the causes of a yeast condition so that you can know what to avoid.

Firstly though, yeast is a fungus that is found in the body existing with other organisms. Those organisms are bacteria and others. These bacteria play a major role in keeping the competition of nutrients alive. The bacteria are also known to kill excess yeast and this is the major reason why they are so helpful. However, when you kill bacteria in the body, you will have no protection against yeast overgrowth and one way the bacteria dies is through the use of antibiotics. Antibiotics are used for treating bacterial infections and other conditions. Therefore, if you get a yeast condition this way, it will not be as a result of a yeast infection contagious disposition. There is no yeast infection contagious condition in women when they get vaginal infections. They are caused by several factors which include menopause, female products, birth control pills, pregnancy and others. All these factors are as a result of hormonal imbalance.

Pregnancy is one of the most critical period in a womans life and it is when hormones are wild and unpredictable. The woman will have a lot of glucose in her system and the yeast in the vagina will feed from vaginal secretions which are sweet and nutritious for their overgrowth. The infection is most common in the second trimester and you need to treat it. If you can avoid birth control pills, you will be saving yourself a lot of heartache when it comes to infections. They alter the normal functions of the hormones causing infections. Yeast infection contagious claims might have come from the fact that a pregnant woman can pass the condition to a new born during birth.

Pregnant women are advised to have all the symptoms treated to avoid infecting their babies. However, it is said that infections this way are quite rare. When women use douches or any other scented product in the vagina, they are creating a totally different environment in the vagina. It is therefore not wise because you will encourage yeast growth. They yeast infection contagious theory will continue to be debated on but, the important thing is that you know what causes infections and, do all you can to be safe.
